THREE LANTERNS ON THE ATLANTIC

northern maine

Located near the most northern historic port in the United States adjacent to Nova Scotia, this residence is on a finger bay leading to the Atlantic Ocean. Inspired by the enigmatic bedrock along the rock-bound coast, the house is comprised of a series of spatial zones each containing a singular domestic activity or use (living, study, sleeping, log and food storage and parking). Each volume is expressed on the waterside as a light filled aperture connecting each space to the view. Each volume offsets to the diagonal view to allow each zone to acknowledge the ocean view. The home is made of clearly detailed natural materials integrating the home with its natural setting and allowing it to age naturally.
